Radiata mänd on hästi kerge ja eksklusiivne saunamaterjal. Samas peab arvestama, et see puit on ka väga õrn ja kergesti kriimustatav.
Puidu termotöötlus toimub spetsiaalses kambris, kus puit kuumutatakse 180 kraadini ja rõhk tõstetakse kuni 9 baarini. Termotöötluse eelis on tema keskkonnasõbralikkus: puitu töödeldakse vaid kõrge temperatuuri ja veeauruga. Töötluse käigus väheneb puidu tihedus ja muutub selle struktuur, mille tõttu vähenevad puidu niiskusimavus ja niiskuseraldus. Selle tulemusena on puit kiiresti muutuvates ilmaoludes stabiilsem. Töötlus parandab ka puidu omadusi: suureneb puidu vastupidavus ilmastikutingimustele ja seenkahjustustele.
Termopuit on suures osas vaiguvaba ja märksa tulekindlam kui tavapuit. Lisaks paraneb puidu soojus- ja heliisolatsioon.
Termotöötlus annab ka suurepärase visuaalse efekti: kuumutamise käigus omandab puit ilusa pruunika värvuse.
Selleks, et puit kestaks kaua, on vaja seda regulaarselt ja õigesti hooldada. Soovituslik on töödelda lava puitosad puidukaitsevahendiga, et kaitsta puitu niiskuse eest. Kõrge kuumus vähendab puitdetailide eluiga; leiliruumi puitpindade kõrgeim lubatud temperatuur on +135C.
