Glued wood is one of the most common materials for making wooden furniture. It is a material with high load-bearing capacity and excellent durability.
A finger-jointed glued wood panel is made from lamellas that have been finger-jointed several times along the length of the panel, so transverse lines are visible on the face of the panel. This processing creates a livelier pattern and makes the material very stable.
Glued wood is divided into three quality classes: A, B and C. A-grade glued wood panels, the highest quality class, have a more even tone and structure and no major defects. The lamellas used are mainly heartwood, and small colour variations and pin knots are permitted. In B quality, greater colour variation is allowed. The lamellas may also include sapwood and different natural growth features, such as sound and closed knots and medullary rays, which give the panel a more lively overall appearance. In C-grade glued wood panels, colour variation is not restricted and the wood has a varied structure. Some loose knots, cracks, waney edges, bark and similar features are also permitted. As a rule, the C-quality side of a glued wood panel is placed on the hidden side, for example the underside of a worktop or stair tread. At the same time, with some surface treatment, such as filling open defects, sanding and finishing, it is possible to achieve a surface with a very striking pattern. Therefore, when choosing a quality class, consider above all the intended use and the overall appearance you want to achieve.
